Lincolnshire is a wonderful area for walking. We have many printed walks leaflets available, including some 'bus and walk' leaflets for those who wish to travel further afield. We are close to the famous Viking Way and the Bluestone Heath Road which tops the ridge follows the old reindeer routes of long ago.
Cyclists too can enjoy the area and again there are printed cycle route leaflets available to borrow. We keep a folder with Sustran's information.
Remember that Grange Farm is accredited with the Tourist Board Welcome Walker and Welcome Cyclist, so you can be assured that everything you need, will be provided according to that 'Standard'.
Lincolnshire Churches are amongst the best in the land. You will find Lincoln Cathedral a 'special place' and well worth a visit. The Boston Stump is famous for its high tower and St James' Church in Louth famous for its tall spire. We have Church Trail leaflets available.
Our own South Ormsby Group of Parishes was the first 'Group' ministry to be set up in the 1960's. It consists of 16 parishes, with nine churches used regularly.
Lincoln our County City is 25 miles from Grange Farm and in the Bailgate area is the Cathedral which is built on the highest point. It is a magnificent beacon to visitors from afar. Nearby is the Castle built by William the Conqueror and home to the Magna Carta. The area between these buildings is the site of the Lincoln Christmas Market held each year in early December.
Visit the new, award winning free entry museum "The Collection" featuring Art & Archaeology.
The street from the Bailgate down to the main shopping centre is known as Steep Hill and lives up to its name!
Look for Brayford Pool and Wharf and enjoy the hostelries and restaurants. Take a boat trip on the Pool and surrounding areas.
The market town of Louth 10 miles away is a delight. With its variety of shops and market there is something for everyone. St James' Church is a must - have you the energy to climb the steps to the viewpoint near the top of the spire? Pubs, tea rooms, cafes, fish and chip shops and restaurants provide a wide choice of menus to suit most tastes. Famous former students of the King Edward VI Grammar School are Captain John Smith, Sir John Franklin and Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
Hubbards Hill is a splendid family nature spot near Louth where children can run around, paddle in the stream, climb slopes and work off their energy - all free of charge (except the car park fee).
Horncastle is 6 miles away and is famous for its Roman connections. Parts of the ancient wall can still be seen. Known in those times as Banovallum, the name is perpetuated in a variety of local names eg. Banovallum School and Banovallum Brass Band. It is also renowned for the many and varied Antique shops.
Have you heard of Mr Marwood, the hangman who perfected the 'long drop'? He used to live in Horncastle not far from the parish church. A plaque can be found on the wall of the house.
Alford is 10 miles away at the start of the coastal plain beneath the Wolds. Look for the Windmill and the Manor House, both open to the public. The Manor was recently re-opened after extensive renovation. This little town hosts Craft Fairs and Folk Festivals regularly.
The Coastal resorts of Skegness, Mablethorpe, Chapel St Leonards and Sutton Sea offer a diverse range of entertainment for young and old. You can enjoy the bright lights and funfair scene, donkey rides or a gentle stroll along the promenade. There are nature reserves to see bird life or the seals.
Aviation enthusiasts will know that Lincolnshire is known as the Bomber County of World War II. No less than 93 airfields could be found in the South and East of England during the War and some still exist today. Visit the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby and see one of the last flying Lancaster aircraft. The latest RAF fighter - the Eurofighter Typhoon has recently made this its base.
A nostalgic trip down memory lane can be found at East Kirkby. The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is based at what was the airfield and is a truly amazing collection of memorabilia and salvaged aircraft, parts, vehicles and another Lancaster called 'Just Jane' which performs taxi runs but is not airworthy. There are rooms in the old Control Tower reconstructed to depict life on the airfield during those times and a most beautiful Chapel dedicated to all those lost during the war years.
At RAF Scampton you will find the Red Arrows display team. This airfield was the home of the Dambuster Squadron and a memorial to them can be found in Woodhall Spa. Also in Woodhall Spa you will see the Petwood Hotel used by the RAF Officers.
Other visitor centres which open to the public are RAF Digby and Metheringham.
If golf is your passion we are only 12 miles from the National Golf Centre which is the HQ for the English Golf Union in Woodhall Spa. There are golf courses at Kenwick Park near Louth, the Louth Golf Club and at West Ashby near Horncastle.
Cadwell Park Racing Circuit is nearby, about six miles and they have a good programme of events for both motorcycles and cars.
Lincolnshire is becoming noted for its food and produce. The Tastes of Lincolnshire initiative headed by Chef Rachel Green is taking off and wonderful speciality foods are now more easily obtained. The County Council has promoted the Farmers Markets and these are proving very popular. We have a number of award winning food specialists close by who raise rare breed sheep, cattle and pigs. Meats can be purchased direct from the farms.
There are so many venues, Market Rasen Race Course, Grimsby's Fishing Heritage Centre and Rand Farm Park near Wragby are just a few more. We could go on and on and on...!
Last of all don't forget our own fishing ponds and there are other fisheries in the locality if you fancy a change.
Each cottage has a folder with information, leaflets etc and in the Information Centre in the barn lots more.
